Key Points:
- The importance of leveling roulettes.
- "Cheating" the crafting and gathering class grind.
- Retainers, Leves, and Society Quests
Today I wanted to talk about those dreaded FFXIV dailies. I’m the first to admit that I ignored (some of) them for a long, long time. Now after 1,000 hours, I find myself wishing I had given them more attention in the past, so I figured it’d be a good thing to share.
Leveling Roulettes
A key to completing your classes.
Unless you’re someone who doesn’t care to have all of your combat classes maxed out, you really should be doing your leveling roulettes every single day. I know lots of people find it boring, but the reality is this is the best way out there to level up your jobs.
Until I had completed the entire game up through Endwalker I had completely ignored it, which is a long-time mind you! But the sheer amount of XP you need is enormous, so you should make sure to do these when you can.
Look at it this way, most activities in the game aren’t going anywhere, but you can only get these bonuses once per day. And every time you don’t do this is an opportunity missed. It’s not FOMO, but it is less efficient.
At a minimum I recommend the Leveling Roulette, Trials Roulette, and Frontlines Roulette as these tend to give the most XP per minute. You can usually get all of these done in under an hour. Anything beyond that should be saved for dedicated grinding sessions.
Ground Company Turn-Ins
A cheat code for crafting classes.
Does leveling your crafting classes scare you? Are you uninterested in following one of those guides that requires you to craft your way up doing a thousand different crafts? I was too. Which is why I pretty much cheated the entire process using the Grand Company Supply and Provisioning Missions.
After you unlock your Grand Company, every day the company will ask for a specific item or items depending on your class’ level. Oftentimes these can be purchased on the marketboard for incredibly low prices and quickly turned in as a really fast XP farm.
If the item is too expensive on your marketboard, look into crafting it yourself or hop on over to Universalis to check markets on your data center and beyond.
As a reminder: high quality items are worth double the XP and seals. And starred items are worth even more! At a minimum I try to turn in the starred items each day.
By doing these turn ins, I ranked up every single one of my crafting and gathering classes to level 70 without ever having done any outside grinding. And roughly 80% of that progress was spent simply purchasing the items I needed. The rest was just from job quests and the occasional custom delivery.
And make sure to utilize your Timers tab so you don’t have to go back to the rep to check what you need. You can find the items while you’re already in the marketboard!
Send Out Retainers
Free items and cheap leveling.
Whether you have two or eight retainers, send them out.
Whether you only have two or have paid for all eight, create them and send them out whenever you play.
They take forever to level up and it’s worth doing this even if you never upgrade their gear. The goal being one day you can get venture coffer after venture coffer hopefully filled with valuables like Jet Black Dye.
It’s also super useful for the gathering classes so you don’t have to go get materials yourself or buy them off the market.
As a pro tip, if you’re going to be around for at least three hours, it’s more efficient to send them on Quick Ventures repeatedly. If you can’t commit to sending them out at least three times, opt for the longer 18-hour ventures as those will give you more XP per hour.
Leves
XP & Money, on tap.
I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t use Leves enough. I was happy enough with my passive Supply and Provisioning Missions that I never really bothered with these. Looking back though, I left an incredible amount of money on the table. And that’s, of course, ignoring the valuable XP that they offer.
In particular, the Alchemy and Culinarian leves are usually worth time grinding for cash. Some of which you can earn three to six thousand gold per. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but if your pockets are empty it does end up being around 500,000 Gil. Don’t leave that on the table like I did!
Society Quests
One of the ultimate time gates.
This last one is simply a matter of spreading a painful grind over as much time as possible. You don’t really need to do this every day, but you should try to. Because when you beat MSQ and start to want to explore these other systems, there’s nothing more painful than spending a month straight trying to complete just the tribes from A Realm Reborn.
Try to get into the habit of squeezing these in when you can, because when you want to have them done and unlocked, you’ll find yourself suddenly needing to focus on them for months at a time.
Mini Cactpot
A quick and easy bonus tip!
Just go do it! You don’t even need to do math. My strategy is to always scratch them off like this and if it’s possible for there to be a Jackpot (1,2,3), I go for that every time.
